Mommy Makeover

After pregnancy and childbirth, your body may have completely changed. This can impact your self-esteem and confidence. Many women find that despite diet and exercise they are unable to return to their pre-baby body image. If this is your case, Mommy Makeover is for you. It is a combination of plastic surgery procedures designed for women who have gone through pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Three core procedures are usually applied: Tummy Tuck, Mammoplasty, and Liposuction. These can be complemented with additional elements to fit your unique needs. For example, a Mommy Makeover could also include a thigh lift, arm lift, or a Brazilian butt lift, and why not a Vaginal Rejuvenation as a final touch!

Mommy Makeover can generally be performed during a single surgical intervention. Usually, it can be performed in less than four (4) hours. If the surgery requires more than four(4) hours it will be divided into two surgical sessions. Mommy Makeover is usually an outpatient surgery (this allows you to recover at home), with local anesthesia and sedation. In special cases the anesthesiologist will recommend the use of general anesthesia. In the first twelve (12) hours of recovery, you will receive personal nursing care.

Plan for recovery time between two (2) to three (3) weeks, to allow any soreness, bruising, or swelling to recede.

How long do I have to wait after childbirth before considering a Mommy Makeover?

I recommend waiting for at least six (6) months or even a year before having a Mommy Makeover. After six (6) months, the hormones related to pregnancy will subside and your weight, breasts, and abdominal changes will have stabilized.

Can I have a Mommy Makeover if I am still breastfeeding?

I do not advise having a Makeover during breastfeeding, for reasons discussed in the previous question; as hormonal changes are still playing a significant role in your body. If you are breastfeeding, it's best to wait several months after you stop nursing. How long will it take to see the results of my surgery? After two (2) weeks the results of your surgery begin to be evident. However, compliance with all post-op guidelines, care, and diet will determine your recovery. After a month you will be 70% recovered. Between three (3) to six (6) months, you will completely recover in most cases.

Is it possible to get a Mommy Makeover before another pregnancy?

I recommend waiting until you have decided not to have more children, to have your Mommy Makeover. This way, areas that have been worked on won't have to be redone. If this is the case, your lifestyle will then be a determinant factor on how long the benefits of the procedure will last.

When can I go back to my normal activities?

Daily activities such as office work, going out, visiting family, etc. can be started after two (2) weeks. Exposure to the sun with proper protection is allowed. After about four (4) weeks you should be able to drive and start exercising between four (4) to six (6) weeks. For high impact exercise, you should wait at least eight (8) weeks.
